Health Care Assistant
Female

I am a Health Care Assistant here at Steel City General Practice. I joined the practice in June 2006, initially as a receptionist but I was drawn more and more toward the clinical side. Having expressed my interest to management I was offered training opportunities and eventually became a HCA (Health Care Assistant). As well as my Clinics in surgery, part of my duties were to manage housebound patients who were on Warfarin and needed their INR checked regularly. Quickly the home visit duties extended to include Blood tests, Blood Pressure, ECG’s, Oxygen sats. and B12 injections. I have continued with my training and have further extended my professional portfolio. I am proud to say that throughout the pandemic we continued to offer as many services at the surgery as we possibly could and that I have continued to visit our housebound patients. I thoroughly enjoy my work at the surgery and the lovely patients we are lucky to treat. Although I am now semi-retired and have handed over most of the home visits, I still manage and monitor the few housebound patients who remain on warfarin and one other patient who needs regular B12 injections
